3D printed emulation computer case

This new project is mostly about CAD design and 3D printing,

I wanted to build a new case for a classic game emulation computer, that would have sort of a retro/space feel, make it look good, matched with a classic looking keyboard, and include speakers plus a rotating screen for those vertical arcade games.

This was a good amount of design work in Fusion, and lots of 3D printing, about 2kg worth of filament. The printer earned its keep!…Obviously, parts had to be sized and designed to be produced on a regular size printer.

This is based on a mini-PC and a 15.6 inch display.

The first thing I actually worked on was the rotating mechanism for the display. I worked out a design which uses a large sealed bearing, 4 steel balls and springs, and a 3D printed channel. This allows the screen to easily rotate 90 degrees in each direction and latch into place.

The color accent was inspired by Bethesda’s Starfield, and there’s also a little nod to Fallout.
